Music Hubs
What are Music Hubs?
- Music Hubs are partnerships that support, deliver and enable high quality music education for children and young people within a local area.
- The Music Hub programme funds a network of 43 Hub partnerships which cover every area of England.
- The Arts Council delivers the Hub programme on behalf of the Department for Education.
What do Music Hubs do?
The vision for Music Hub partnerships is to enable all children and young people to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together, and have the opportunity to progress their musical interests, including professionally.
The aims of the Music Hub partnership are to:
- Support schools to deliver high-quality music education
- Support all children and young people to engage with a range of musical opportunities in and out of school
- Support young people to develop their musical interests further, including in employment.
To achieve this, HLOs are awarded two ring-fenced grants:
- the revenue grant, which is core funding to coordinate and support the delivery of music education provision through a Hub partnership in line with this vision and aims
- the capital grant, which is funding to increase the volume, range, relevance, and accessibility of musical instruments, equipment and technology in the Hub area
